our natural world, and interpersonal enrichment through the unique worldview of the Maya culture.
Your journey may begin with a ceremony by Maya Shaman to commemorate the spiritual encounter of both the western and the Maya world. The ceremony will take place in the energetic
presence of a pristine crater-formed lake on top of a volcano. During this ceremony, be enlightened with lectures on the Maya cycles of time presented by several Maya Spiritual Guides
who come from various regions of the country. Each spiritual guide will exchange experiences about their visions of spirituality based on their own cultural traditions.
After the ceremony, experience provinces (most are situated in the western highlands of Guatemala) known for their rich cultural treasures. Informal presentations will be provided
to familiarize you with the communities that you will be visiting.
MAYA CULTURAL TRADITIONS
Experience a quaint little highland town that is laden with the colors and activities of bountiful culture. It is here where you will learn how skilled Maya artesian weavers bring to
life their respective cultural traditions through their art forms of hand-weaving techniques on their back strap looms. The intricate designs and patterns decorating the weavings are
treasures handed over by their ancestors, showing a rich and varied heritage filled with fascinating legends and stories. Your local guide will decipher each pattern and explain the
significance of each color in relation to the Mayan cosmology.
MARKETPLACE AT CHICHICASTENANGO
Visit Chichicastenango, and experience the largest Maya Market in Guatemala. Here, thousands of indigenous Maya from throughout the region stream into town on market days to buy, sell,
socialize and worship. Vivid colors of each local costume create a gorgeous, multihued outdoor scene that has made this province an international attraction.
SANTIAGO ATITLAN AND LAKE ATITLAN
In Santiago Atitlan, you can visit Mayan women’s cooperatives and enjoy some of the most breathtaking vistas that nature has to offer-including tranquil Lake Atitlan, a natural jewel
nestled between three volcanos (Atitlan, Toliman and San Pedro). There will be plenty of time to relax, reflect, renew, and enjoy the countryside at your leisure…take in indigenous
farming communities, the many natural volcano steam saunas, the national biodiversity parks and just about anything else that you would like to explore with your personal spiritual guides.
Learn from the ancients and study the three cycles of time as described by the Maya (dawn, present and future). It is said that hidden secrets can be found regarding many
uncertainties that cannot be explained by modern-day conceptualization.
